I’m celebrating OT Month. And so is Ryan Gosling. (Thanks for the support, Ry!) I often think OT is the hidden gem of the rehab world. It’s focus is so broad and all-encompassing and patient-specific that at times it is hard to define. Until everyone knows, I educate one person at a time. And…

About Kelly
I'm Kelly and I'm a word addict. My favorite word is twitterpated, followed closely by kerfuffle. I feel healthiest when processing life on paper- it's how I think best. Here's some more pertinent facts: I love to MacGyver my way through life and nothing is ever broken that I can't fix. The color orange reminds me of my dad and makes me feel warm and loved. The phrase, "Was it refrigerated?" can still bring me close to incontinence as I recall a hilarious late night conversation with my mom over fifteen years ago. My brother- who is half my age- helped make me the person I am today. I live my life in movie quotes and love when others can play along. I am a seminary graduate and love to write about scripture. In my spare time, I work full time as an Occupational Therapist helping people relearn how to care for themselves after neurological impairments. I am introverted and get easily overstimulated, but most people would instantly peg me for an extrovert. I was once introduced by a friend as, "This is Kelly. She's way rad!" The person misheard and thought my name was Kelly Wayrad. It's a sentiment I strive to live up to daily! I'm glad you're here. Thanks for reading my real thoughts on virtual paper!
Celebrating Problem Solving
Have I mentioned that I love MacGyver? It may have come up once or twice. MacGyver is my hero. I love his creativity and quick thinking and ability to problem solve in the face of trial. Here’s my latest MacGyver moment. I ran a five mile race last weekend (and set a personal record of…
Speaking of Potty Training…
This is a real thing. Fisher Price really wants kids to celebrate using the bathroom. Not only is this an amazing product, but that hostess’ accent might be able to convince me to buy just about anything. So I can laugh at the silly song when we pour water, but I don’t laugh at the…
20 Ways to Celebrate Without Money or Food
I’m on a diet. And a budget. So sometimes I think celebrating is pretty much out! I can’t get dessert or buy a new dress or drive to the beach without cutting back somewhere else. But I’m determined to celebrate in life. I thought this might be a problem until I quickly listed at 20 ways…
Celebrate More
Adulthood doesn’t always lend itself to celebrating small accomplishments. Childhood, on the other hand, DOES! I used to celebrate, and be celebrated for, learning to write a new letter, sing a new song, perform show and tell, and perhaps the pinnacle of celebrating that occurs in childhood, but not in adulthood… using the potty! Could…
Spring
Today is the first day of Spring. It is a time for new beginnings. Cleaning out. And emerging from the hibernation of winter. I’m so excited, I just wet my plants!
Workout Secrets
Want the secret to the best work out secret ever? I’ve got it right here! Ninety seconds of core strengthening, planking, trunk rotation, scapular stability and the cutest work out partner ever. A four month old. One dad recorded working out with his daughter and it makes my heart happy. Not only to see a…
A Vast, Unending Ocean
I’m not a beach person. I’m pale, so the sun and I are not friends. I don’t love sand. I hate crowds. And allowing the world to see me in my swimsuit doesn’t rank high on my list either. I go to the beach slathered in 70 spf lotion and covered up! But I love…
Monochromatic Pride
One of my little friends colored a picture for me last week. She labored on it with diligence and focus, using the one marker currently available to her. She laid on the floor for steadiness, stayed within the lines, went over the desires sections again and again until, in her eyes, it was perfect. She…
The Hanging of a Milestone
I’m proud of my hanger. Not just for functioning to keep clothes off of my floor or preventing wrinkles from setting in. I’m proud of my hanger for changing my life. This ordinary looking hanger changed my life. It was far more than plastic and convenient anti-slip notches. For me, it represented a milestone that…
