It’s Running Season

Don’t hate me feet. Or knees. Or hips. Or lungs for that matter! Why do I make these requests whilst wrapped in Kinesio tape and neoprene? Because it is officially running season. My first race of the season was last Saturday. I ran with my friend Olivia in her first ever 5K. It was a tough run.…

Anticipation

Tomorrow is race day. I’m willingly waking up early, dressing ridiculous and running an incredibly long way. I have to get up in a few hours to begin the trek to the starting gate. Dressed as Marlin from Finding Nemo, with giant googley eyes and fins glued to my sweat band. I’ve been anxious as well…

Olympic Perseverance

Human interest stories outrank medal counts. At least in my mind. I want to know the back story. The How and the Why of the athletes much more than I want to know the What. In my mind, the color of the medal pales in comparison to the sacrifices, tears, successes and years of training…

The Best Laid Plans…

… often go awry. Here’s my running update: Knees in pain: 1 Hips in pain: 1 New shoes purchased: 2 (with orthotics) Knee braces worn: 3 Running partners: 0 Two weeks out from the Disney Princess Half Marathon and things are not looking great. When you need a reminder…

… Just look at your toes!   I’ve been having a hard time keeping up the motivation for running lately dealing with a quasi-injury and nearing the big day without enough miles behind me. So these arrived just in the nick of time. I’ve been wearing them every night — because that’s when I actually…

The Running Dream

Car accident. Amputation. Stump. Prosthetist. Cerebral Palsy. Disability. Perseverance. Success. That’s a ten word summary of the best book I’ve read in the recent past. The Running Dream chronicles the story of Jessica, a bright young sprinter who loses her right leg below the knee after a catastrophic car accident. Jessica reluctantly enters the world…

The Happiest 5K

Yes, I participated in two 5K’s in one week. I know, ridiculous. They just happened to fall six days apart and I wanted to run in both. One because I believed in the cause, one because I wanted to encourage a friend of mine who was racing in his first ever 5K! Plus, it’s an…

Running and Asceticism

I’ve never experience the runner’s high, endorphine-flooded, goofy-this-feels-like-walking-only-faster-I-could-run-forever state of being. I feel every foot-pouding step, every muscle contraction, every oxygen-drenched breath when I run. I run for two reasons: 1. The sense of accomplishment is addicting. 2. To tell myself, “no.” When I completed my first 5K, I was totally pumped. Not by runner’s…
