I feel like I am missing a word. Like it should read, “Holy Hair Flair, Batman!” Maybe that’s just showing my age. But that really has nothing to do with my story! A friend of mine is headed to Africa, to coastal Kenya, in a few short weeks. I’ve sent her with an extra special present:…

About Kelly
I'm Kelly and I'm a word addict. My favorite word is twitterpated, followed closely by kerfuffle. I feel healthiest when processing life on paper- it's how I think best. Here's some more pertinent facts: I love to MacGyver my way through life and nothing is ever broken that I can't fix. The color orange reminds me of my dad and makes me feel warm and loved. The phrase, "Was it refrigerated?" can still bring me close to incontinence as I recall a hilarious late night conversation with my mom over fifteen years ago. My brother- who is half my age- helped make me the person I am today. I live my life in movie quotes and love when others can play along. I am a seminary graduate and love to write about scripture. In my spare time, I work full time as an Occupational Therapist helping people relearn how to care for themselves after neurological impairments. I am introverted and get easily overstimulated, but most people would instantly peg me for an extrovert. I was once introduced by a friend as, "This is Kelly. She's way rad!" The person misheard and thought my name was Kelly Wayrad. It's a sentiment I strive to live up to daily! I'm glad you're here. Thanks for reading my real thoughts on virtual paper!

I’m still learning about this blogging thing. I enjoy writing – that doesn’t take a lot of effort. And I’ve gotten used to whipping out my phone to take pictures when something strikes me as humorous or blog-worthy so I have some visual interest to my posts. But the web design and “blogging back end”…
Sole Mates
I’m missing a sock. Half of my favorite pair of running socks. I love them because they’re different. Bright green. Snazzy – with a little extra flair. And Functional – so they don’t slip down my heel mid-run. But one has been missing for weeks. She ran away after her last time in the laundry.…
We Didn’t Start the Fire…
Alas, Mr. Joel, I did. I was making popcorn for some friends who were over to watch So You Think You Can Dance. I hadn’t made stovetop popcorn in a while, so I guess I was out of practice. I poured some oil in a pot and set it on the burner to warm. I…
My Log Flume Ride into Adulthood
Click. Click. Click. Click. Click WHOOOSH! I had a long time to click up this ride slowly, anticipating the plunge that was inevitable. The plummet into adulthood taunted me seemingly just out of reach. I worked, but wasn’t full time. I saved for retirement, but not aggressively. I went to bed when I felt like…
Magyar Vagyok, Nem Turista!
A friend of mine is in Budapest right now. She asked for my recommendations on sightseeing and eating and I got this dreamy far off look in my eyes as I wrote her back remembering my numerous trips to this gem of a country. I have such fond memories of Hungary. Teaching English, devouring delectable…
Music in the Key of Life
I’m no musician. Now don’t get me wrong, I love music! But somehow my musical training and prowess stalled when I was first chair in the recorder in fourth grade. I can carry a tune okay, but I don’t enjoy singing in front of others – at least not on my own. But if you…
Friday Night Fatigue
I’m done. Tuck me in. Put me to bed. It was a long week. We were extra busy in the NICU and lower staffed due to holidays both of which added up to longer hours for yours truly. I did great, right up until two o’clock today. That’s when I hit the magical divide between…
Extroverts and Introverts
Am I an introvert or an extrovert? I’d wager that if I took a poll, that the vast majority of people who know me would think that I am a solid, decided, end-of-the-spectrum extrovert. But they’d be wrong. I am whole-heartedly an introvert. I love alone time. I am most recharged by down time by…
Matriargacy
My grandmom is turning 80 years old today. I was asked to choose a few words to best describe my grandmother. I’ve thought about it all week. I’ve dealt with head-pounding, finger-tightening writers block for which there is no pill, no cure. How do you take 80 years (or in her case, “Turning 29 for…
