Now that everyone has that song in their heads… I have an announcement to make! No, I’m not pregnant. No, I’m not engaged. No, I’m not moving. Now that we’ve gotten those out of the way, I want to tell you about a journey I’ve been on for many months. I knew last year about…

About Kelly
I'm Kelly and I'm a word addict. My favorite word is twitterpated, followed closely by kerfuffle. I feel healthiest when processing life on paper- it's how I think best. Here's some more pertinent facts: I love to MacGyver my way through life and nothing is ever broken that I can't fix. The color orange reminds me of my dad and makes me feel warm and loved. The phrase, "Was it refrigerated?" can still bring me close to incontinence as I recall a hilarious late night conversation with my mom over fifteen years ago. My brother- who is half my age- helped make me the person I am today. I live my life in movie quotes and love when others can play along. I am a seminary graduate and love to write about scripture. In my spare time, I work full time as an Occupational Therapist helping people relearn how to care for themselves after neurological impairments. I am introverted and get easily overstimulated, but most people would instantly peg me for an extrovert. I was once introduced by a friend as, "This is Kelly. She's way rad!" The person misheard and thought my name was Kelly Wayrad. It's a sentiment I strive to live up to daily! I'm glad you're here. Thanks for reading my real thoughts on virtual paper!
Bam!
I feel like Emeril. Concocting something delectable that others can enjoy. But I’m not making a meal for you all; I’m writing a story. I try to practice my craft independently of recognition. Some posts that seem to get fantastic traction are the ones I spent just a moderate amount of time on. Whereas others…
Backspace and Life
“It’s quite helpful to talk with you rather than just knowing what I read in your application essay. I think it gives us a fuller picture of who you are.” “Of course. Essays you can backspace.” This was the dialogue exchanged between one of my fellow interviewers and one of the applicants. I stopped and…
Sweaty Handshakes
Caught your attention, eh? My day was full of nervous laughter, trembling fingers and sweaty handshakes. I was asked to be on a panel of interviewers to assess applicants to the Master’s of Occupational Therapy program at a local university. First of all, the applicant pool was rather impressive. Smartly dressed. Well-spoken. Passionate students. But,…
Try Some Perspective!
Yesterday I talked seriously about perspective. Wanting to live in a state of thankfulness and not take life for granted. Here’s another, sillier look at Perspective brought to you by my favorite Internet-tainers, Rhett and Link. Thanks to Perspective, all is not Lost.
Perspective
I am incredibly driven and rarely take time to reflect on accomplishments. I take basic skills for granted. I am not thankful. I am skilled in making small decisions overwhelming. I have trouble with perspective. I learned this about myself in a new way this week by an unlikely tutor: the stomach flu. I was…
End It
Slavery still exists. I wonder how many people know that. And it’s not a little problem. There are more slaves in the world today that at any other time in history. 27 million men, women and children are enslaved. I first heard about this modern day plight at Passion 2012. I learned more of the…

National Freestyle Walking Day
Today is a national holiday. Did you celebrate? Did you do an unnecessary twirl or a nonsensical jig getting from point A to point B? Did you toss in an little extra strut or swagger whilst ambulating? Did you stride to the song in your head? I did. We celebrated in my office today with…
A Job with 2% Unemployment?
That’s right, MY job, has 2% unemployment. I’m an occupational therapist. I use daily, meaningful, functional activities to help people be independent. Most of my patients need help doing things they used to take for granted. Basic things like getting dressed, getting out of bed and going to the bathroom. They often can’t problem solve…
