Our Crazy English Language

Yes, I’m nerdy.

I freely, and of my own accord read a book about the English language, linguistics, history, and the evolution of language. Here’s a small tidbit that made me smile.

“Language, never forget, is more fashion than science, and matters of usage, spelling and pronunciation tend to wanter around like hemlines.”

  1. Actually, that sounds like an interesting book. I think it will make a good Christmas present for Bob. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

  2. That is a great quote, although those hemline changes annoy me. I see so many “your” instead of “you’re” latey. It kills me a little. I’m reading A Walk in the Woods by the same author. I highly recommend it. I saw that he also wrote The Mother Tongue, now I must put it on my list!
